Villa Noy was built by Robert Malle-Stevens in 1923 in the small town of Hyères not far from Marseille for one of the most famous couples of the 20th century - patrons Marie-Laure and Charles de Noy. Jean Cocteau often stayed at their place, and Man Ray even made a film “Secrets of the Castle of Dice” here. During World War II, there was a hospital for soldiers of the Italian army.

When Marie-Laure did not become in 1970, the local authorities bought the house and made it accessible to the public. Since 2006, Villa Noay has an art center, where various festivals and competitions in photography, fashion, architecture and design are held.

The modernist house, designed by French architect Robert Malle-Stevens, has a very unusual form, for which he was called the “frozen ship”. The triangular garden of the Armenian architect Gabriel Gevorkian in the form of a grid of flower beds interspersed with “inserts” of multi-colored tiles deserves special attention. They were inspired by the famous designer and decorator Pierre Jovanovic while working on the project to update the villa’s souvenir shop.

In them, Jovanovic “painted” not only the walls of space, but also all the elements of decor, from wall shelves and niches to stands with books and other things from the souvenir shop.
